[va-bird] thank you

Hi Matt,

Thanks very much for your kind words. You know sometimes I write straight
bird reports like the big time listers, sometimes I write bird behaviour
stories, sometimes I write silly, sappy stuff because I get so darn excited
by the birds. But one thing I make sure of is that whatever I write, there
is some solid information in my post.

Whoever "C. Jones" is, he/she failed to notice that. The birds I listed in
my reports are not regular yardbirds such as Cardinals or Modos. They are
migrants. People track birds and their arrival dates, and the birds I
reported in my yard are just as valid as if they were reported in a park or
other birding hotspot. And you know what? Since very few people report on
the Vienna area, I've had people thank me for reporting because they didn't
know such good birds go through here.

And as to the story about the Brown Thrasher, not only did that story
report the fact of 2 thrashers, it reported that one of them ate a cicada
nymph. I didn't know they ate cicada nymphs, and I'll bet a lot of other
people didn't know that, including "C. Jones."

I've been on VAbirds for quite a few years, I think since shortly after it
was started. I've paid my dues on this list and provided decent, useful
information on birds and wildlife gardening and tried to do it with a sense
of humour and, on occasion, an ornery glimmer. "C. Jones" may find it hard
to believe, but numerous people have written me privately and thanked me
for posting, just as you have now done onlist.

And there is something else "C. Jones" failed to notice. You're supposed
to delete an unwanted post BEFORE reading it.

Thanks again Matt, VERY much.

Enjoy the birds everyone.
