Using netting to stop snakes is not a good thing. Many snakes die in these
nets if they are not promptly removed, especially in Virginia's hot summers.
Some predation upon birds is to be expected and accepted. If a site is
overly vulnerable, then you should discontinue enticing birds to that
location.
It is also not prudent to try to rid your area of snakes as they play an
important ecological role.
It would be much better and more humane to put your birdhouse on a pole that
can have a baffle attached to it that is not deadly to the predators that
exist for a good reason.
