VA-Birders,
I was surprised to see this afternoon a flock of over 30 Ring-billed Gulls
flying over the abbey, heading northwest in a leisurely fashion. I know they
aren't rare by any means but it is highly unusual for us to see any gulls on
our mountain top.
It was also nice today to hear a Red-shouldered Hawk calling from the woods
behind our barn, and to see two pairs of Purple Finches at the feeders.
There continues to be about half a dozen Yellow-rumped Warblers with the
Golden-crowned Kinglets along the stream here, as well as our resident Winter
Wren who is always found around the stone walls of the abbey.
I hope everyone has a happy and blessed New Year.
