I recieved a call this morning from the landowner of Stuarts Pond in Rosedale,
Va (Russell Co.) that a large number of white birds were at the pond.
I arrived at 9:30 am to find 51 Great Egrets in the trees around the pond.
A call to my wife got me a camera delivered.
I had 3 couples stop to see what they were in just a short period.
After a few calls, Tom Hunter and Wallace & Carolyn Coffey showed up to check
them out. Wallace has birded this area for 44 years and thinks this is a
record number for the area.
They were still there at 5:20pm. 17 in the trees, the rest on the edge of the
pond.
Migration is just great.
