[va-bird] Re: pishing for hummers?

Hi Karen,

As you probably know, it doesn't take much to "pish off" a hummingbird,
especially if it's another hummer. One of the funniest instances I've ever
witnessed of two bird species interacting, was between a Ruby-throat and a
Killdeer. Several years ago I was birding at the Roanoke Sewage Treatment Plant
when
a Killdeer flew by at eye level, at a very high speed, "screaming" for all it
was worth, with a hummingbird hot on it's tail. How it all began I'll never
know, but it attests to the fearlessness of those tiny mites.
