On a brilliant Sunday got to spend some time in the back yard just enjoying
my "home" birds and found that we have a pair of nesting flickers in a tree
in our back yard. What a treat. I know it means the tree isn't in good
shape but...I can't bear to think of taking it down if our feathered friends
are using it. I also had the joy of listening to an ovenbird trade calls
with our towhee's and watch our red bellied woodpecker fend off other males
from "his" suet feeder.
All in all a perfect Sunday inside the beltway.
Cheers, Janet Martin

PS: my sister who lives on a hilltop just south of Leesburg has reported she
has a pair of hooded warblers nesting just below her bed room window. They
like to sing around 5 in the morning. Ah the joys of country living ;-)
