Dear Teen Birders
This Saturday from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM we will
have our first-ever all-day teen bird club field
trip. We will be going to Delaware Bay hoping to
see huge numbers of horseshoe crabs with
thousands of shorebirds eating their eggs. Bring
lunch, water, sunscreen, and bug-repellant. We
will probably make a junk-food stop too so you
may want to bring money for that. A pillow to
snooze on might make your long drive more
comfortable.
Beginners and advanced birders in grades 8-12 are
welcome.
Expected birds include the declining Red Knot,
colorful Dunlins and Ruddy Turnstones, and the
wonderful Avocet and Black-necked Stilt. We will
also look for the Glaucous Gull and Red-necked
Phalarope that have been seen in the area this
week.
Space is limited so please e-amil Mr Atwood to
let him know if you plan to come or if you need
directions to Flint Hill.
We will meet at the Flint Hill School west campus
in Oakton (Fairfax County) at 3320 Jermantown
Road.
