Dear VA birders,
Some of you may have discovered a new website devoted to "South Atlantic
Migratory Birds" (waterfowl and shorebirds, so far). The http address is:
samigbird.fws.gov. Results from surveys at National Wildlife Refuges and
State Waterfowl Management Areas are posted and available to the public.
At Back Bay NWR, we are doing thrice-monthly waterfowl and shorebird
surveys, and would love to share the sighting with the birding public.
Unfortunately, as you can guess, we are overwhelmed with work and tend to
get a backlog of several months entering the data.
We are looking for a computer-savvy individual to volunteer to do the data
entry for our surveys at Back Bay NWR and False Cape State Park. I create
"survey reports" in Excel that can then be e-mailed, thus THE WORK CAN BE
DONE FROM YOUR COMPUTER AT HOME, or at the Refuge. I anticipate that the
work will take about 2 hours, 3 times per month, ideally the day the
survey results are sent to the volunteer.
If you are interested in helping the Refuge and other birders, please
contact me. I will be out of town from March 12-28, so if you leave me a
message during that time, I will get back to you upon my return.
Thanks,
Dorie
P.S. Special thanks to all of the birders who attended the CBBT meeting
this morning.
Dorie Stolley
