Howdy,
A fairly slow day on the watch today. A small burst of sharpies in the morning
then a slow trickle the rest of the day. A few merlins livened up the late
afternoon, which made for some excitement at the trapping blind. Winds were
light and variable, ending up SE. We're expecting some rain sometime tomorrow,
so the morning might just be ok. Who knows? Totals follow.

Raptor banding:
The fearless raptor wrangler, Deniz Aygen, had her first multiple-capture
day today after opening on 8 Sept. She's bagged a mind-numbing total of 9 birds
thus far, a super start. The first bird of the fallcame on the 8th, as a young
female Cooper's hawk stooped in front of the hawk platform and got the ball
rolling.
Today, sporadic action throughout the morning resulted in two juvenile
female Sharp-shinned hawks acquiring government jewelry. A bit later, a Merlin
found its way into a net. A nice mini-flurry of Merlins concluded the day, and
four more received aluminum bracelets for their trouble.
Banding totals to date:
Sept. 8: 1 HY Cooper's hawk
Sept. 9: 1 HY Merlin
Sept. 13: 2 HY Sharp-shinned hawks, 5 HY Merlin
HY= hatch-year (juvenile)
