In a plowed field on Horner's Mill Road in
Leedstown yesterday afternoon I found the
following (9/28/03 at 4:15PM). This is the same
field that had the buff-breasted sandpipers
earlier in the month.
2 American Golden Plover (my first for the state)
9 Semipalmated Plover
85 Killdeer
15 Semipalmated Sandpiper
9 Least Sandpiper
4 greater yellowlegs
I saw no ducks in the Rappahannock River but saw
75 Forster's Terns in Tappahannock (Essex Co) at
the bridge. (No other terns.)
Last Saturday(9/20) in plowed fields in Leedstown
my Field Natural History students and I found 3
Semipalmated Sandpipers, 6 Semipalmated Plovers,
5 Least Sandpipers, and 2 lesser yelowlegs
