Ok,
We're off to a good start. I've updated the comp list with one
correction (Occoquan is in Prince William County - thanks Bill!),
several earlier dates than the ones I had (Ed Talbott and Larry Meade),
and one new species, Ruffed Grouse (Ed Talbott).
Couple things I should have mentioned in my earlier message:
1. To save space I will usually only list the person who reports the
bird to VA Bird or to me, not everyone who saw it.
2. The base list contains species which have accepted VARCOM records or
are listed in the "Blue Book" - Virginia's Birdlife - An Annotated
Checklist, June 1987, VSO. Steve Rottenborn is diligently working on a
new version of this which should be out this year hopefully - GO Steve!
3. This list does not contain extinct or extirpated species including
Passenger Pigeon, Carolina Parakeet, Trumpeter Swan, and Green Pheasant.
4. There are at least two species which may be added if the record is
accepted by VARCOM - Black-bellied Whistling Duck and Western Wood-Pewee.
