Just had a great look at a BLUE-HEADED VIREO here in Oakton, foraging
slowly through the forest about 30 feet up (i.e. roughly 1/3 up from
ground to canopy). 2PM Friday. Why go driving somewhere when you can
see life birds right at home?
Also, from Hemlock Overlook this morning, in a constant drizzle: I
birded for about 45 minutes, 7:45 to 8:30 AM. The rain never stopped,
though the intensity varied. Great habitat, lousy weather. I saw a
grand total of 2 bird species. If we disqualify the Canada Goose since
it's a water bird, the clear winner of this morning's Rainshower
Persistence Challenge goes to the 2 Ruby-Crowned Kinglets who peered at
me through the falling drops, wondering what a crazy loon like me was
doing out in the rain.
Happy Spring birding!
