I've been kind of frustrated with trying to understand the details around
the horseshoe crab harvest and the red knot lifecycle. There seemed to be
lots of bits of info here and there, but no coherent picture. But I have
just been reading the ESA listing petition that Defenders of Wildlife and
others submitted to FWS; that seems to be pretty comprehensive. If you want
to be more informed on this, I'd recommend reviewing it:

moratoriums proposed in the HC management plan. The one we need to support
will put a moratorium on the HARVEST OF CRABS FOR BAIT. We do not oppose
harvest of crabs for medical purposes...
