Hi Chris and Mike,
Well this got blown out of proportion! Yikes!
You are both correct. I enjoy birding and I do get caught up sometimes.
Chris, your excerpt of my response to you was a reply to a post that I felt was
a little excessive in your instruction to all of us who might oneday like to
see the Ivory-billed. I really didn't think this listserv was the best place
for that. Where my words could have been better chosen, I still think your
opinion that we should all simply stay away forever was a bit much. Looking
back, I should have just kept it to myself.
Mike, if you re-read my reply to your flaming private e-mail to me (which I
will not post due to the language you used), you will see that I did not
suggest that others were questioning your birds, nor did I question all of your
sightings as you implied. I was only asking about the Swainson's to confirm it
so I might be able to take a look sometime. After all, occurrences of that
bird this far north are rare, but documented. Again, I should have just let it
go.
I suppose I should be able to recognize when I might respond to posters
off-line and when it is simply a huge waste of my time. Maybe off-line
responses are, in general, a bad idea anyway. We learn and we move on...
Sorry to Paul and to you all for the off-topic message. To have some redeeming
value to my post, I can report that Sunrise Valley Park in Reston yielded NO
Willow Flycatchers today as it has in the past, but did hold as many as five
YELLOW WARBLERs. Back to the birds...
Jay
