Thanks, Folks, for the heads up about the vote this week on drilling for oil
in ANWR.
My wife and I both called and emailed Senator Warner encouraging him to vote
FOR drilling in ANWR.
If drilling does occur, it will be the most regulated, the most monitored
site in the history of oil exploration, and any negative impact on the wildlife
will be minimal.
With OPEC's grip on keeping supplies below world demand, and with the ever
increasing price per barrel, America NEEDS more domestic supplies of oil.
It will not be the end of the world as we know it, it will not be the end of
Alaskan wildlife, but additional domestic supplies will help keep people from
losing their jobs and homes, which is surely what will happen if further high
oil prices stall our economy.
A little more common sense and a little less knee-jerk reaction against
beneficial development could go a long way to achieve a satisfactory compromise
in
this matter.
____________
As spring rapidly approaches, have very much recently enjoyed the daily
procession of my common backyard birds feeding on cracked corn and birdseed.
Today
I enjoyed watching and listening to:
CAROLINA WREN
COMMON GRACKLE
BLUE JAY
NORTHERN CARDINAL
COMMON CROW
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD (feeding on the suet cake hung from the soffit on my
house, grudgingly sharing it with a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH)
MOURNING DOVE (lots of cooing and chasing each other today!)
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
And to my neighbor: "No, sorry, I'm not going to clear the understory of my
wooded lot like you recently did to yours. Don't you enjoy listening to all
the birdies we have around here?"
Best regards to All,
