Hello VA-Birders,
This morning I visited Dyke Marsh, Fairfax County and then skipped over to
Possum Point with a couple of stops in between to see if any migrants were
present. There was lots of activity at Dyke but things died after that, though
I still managed some nice birds and 67 species for the couple of hours of
birding.
Top birds at Dyke were 3 Purple Martins along with several Tree Swallows, a
single Bonaparte's Gull floating off the picnic area then taking flight, 3
Eastern Phoebes, a lone Tundra Swan,, 2 Winter Wrens, and 3 Ruby-crowned
Kinglets.
Possum Point yielded the first Yellow-throated Warbler I have seen this year,
singing loudly near the intersection of Possum Point Road and Cockpit Road.
Also present was one Red-headed Woodpecker on Cockpit Road about 1/4 of the way
up. Also heard 2 Pine Warblers, but there were no LA Waterthrushes, B&W
Warblers, or others.
Regards,
Jay Keller
