VA BIRDers,
I encountered a singing ("chu-wee") Yellow-bellied Flycatcher at Dyke Marsh
(Fairfax Co) late this afternoon just a few hundred yards down Haul Road. At
Monticello Park (City of Alexandria) this morning, a Least Flycatcher was
working the tops of the trees and a Philadelphia Vireo was at the mid-height
range near the street.
The cold weather brought many of the neo-trops down to eye level at the
postage stamp sized park of Monticello and here are some estimates of the
birds I encountered.
Ruby-thr Hummingbird 1
Philadelphia Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 15-18
House Wren 2
Swainson's Thrush 2-3
Gray-cheeked Thrush 2
Gray Catbird 2
No. Parula 1
Chestnut-sided 1
Magnolia 2
Black-thr Blue 4-6
Yellow-rumped 1-2
Blackburnian 1
Blackpoll 8-10
Black & White 1
Am. Redstart 12-15
Ovenbird 2-3
Mourning 1
Com. Yellowthroat 4
Canada 5-6
Scarlet Tanager 2
