I just got back from a several-week trip, and found that my wooden
birdfeeder (a hanging one) is practically destroyed on one side--lots of
wood slivers all over my balcony! At first I thought it might have been
damaged by a squirrel that sometimes tries to jump onto the feeder from the
railing... but over the past day or two I've noticed that one of the
"regulars" to my feeder is a red-bellied woodpecker. Might it have caused
the damage?
Is this a normal thing, or am I the only one whose feeder is suffering at
the hands (beaks?) of those it is intended to assist? If it is the
woodpecker, is there anything else I could put out that would deter him from
pecking at the feeder?
Thanks!
Kristine
