Apparently a downy woodpecker has decided to eat my colonial porch in historic
Parkfairfax. Over the weekend, he has drilled a 3 foot line in the upper wood
frame facing the street. I haven't seen or heard him but my neighbors have and
said he is at it most of the day. The wood is probably 25 years old and was
recently repainted in August. The porch has a very high ceiling so it is not
something I can take care of myself.
Before calling my condo office, I would welcome any advice/thoughts on what to
do if the little guy continues. The porch is right next to a huge hemlock
cedar that I've often seen him working. We lost a big dutch elm to disease
earlier this summer in the back, but I would hope there are plenty of food
sources in the Mt. Eagle woods behind me.
Thanks.
