I am fortunate enough to live on the edge of a large wooded stream valley
protected area near Ft Belvoir in Lorton. My most valued moments are spent on
my deck listening to the dawn chorus. This morning, heard in the cacophony of
cardinals, titmice, chickadees, and robins was the faint sweet notes of the
first wood thrush of the season. Thoreau tells us that the thrush alone
declares the immortal wealth and vigor that is in the forest. Nature is in her
spring.
