On the 23rd of this month I was surprised to see a pine warbler feeding two
begging juveniles. Seems pretty late for that.
The colder weather of the past week brought us red-breasted nuthatch and
both golden-crowned and ruby-crowned kinglets. And despite the spring-like
weather today, we had the season's first juncos. Also plenty of chipping
sparrows and yellow-rumped warblers, three red-tailed hawks migrating south
and, surprisingly, a black-and-white warbler.
Also this morning I was happy to see two bluebirds sampling the pokeberries
we left growing in the fenceline just for them and their fruit-eating
cousins. Guess they're not quite ripe yet, though, as each bird only ate
one berry.
