While a cool wind was blowing on the Blue Ridge this morning, it was
comfortable and warm just below the ridgetop. Among the old logs and rocks of
our river I found 5 Winter Wrens, where just two weeks ago there had been only
2. It does seem they are beginning to migrate.
A Cooper's Hawk circled overhead, and there was once again a Red-breasted
Nuthatch in the same patch of pines where it has been found regularly this
winter. Fox Sparrows (5 today) still come to the abbey feeders, and I also saw
a trio of Field Sparrows along the edge of the field.
