Both the adult male Wilson's Warbler and the adult male Ruby-throated
Hummingbird continue to frequent the sideyard at 9 Randolph Ave. in Cape
Charles.
The warbler appears mostly in the early morning and late afternoon, while the
hummingbird is usually present all day, though this morning, it flew off high
to the southeast, probably to find other feeders and flowers. The forecast is
for truly unusually warm weather for the next 10 days, with highs in the high
70s forecast for next week on several days. What a contrast to recent
winters! Two male Redheads and one Cackling Goose have been at Crystal Lake
along
Washington Street in Cape Charles off and on this week; Tom Saunders also
found a hen Common Merganser here, but it has not stayed around. Hooded
Mergansers, Mallards, American Black Ducks, Ruddy Ducks, and Lesser Scaup are
often
here, along with a Greater Yellowlegs and a few Bonaparte's Gulls. The town
jetty and breakwater have had up to 3 Purple Sandpipers.
