I stopped at Riverside Park (about 100 yards from my house) around 11:00am
after visiting Belmont Bay, the Great Marsh and Pohick Bay-none of which
were especially productive except for large numbers of black ducks at the
Great Marsh. Larry Meade and I searched the marsh for greater yellowlegs
with no success, but as we were leaving Kurt Gaskill was coming in, and
greater yellowlegs began to call. I guess they were just waiting for Kurt
to arrive.
Anyway, I was surprised to see quite a lot of dabblers in the Potomac at
Riverside in addition to the more usual diving ducks. A list of waterbirds
seen at Riverside and from the pullout at the end of Vernon View Drive
follows. I didn't have time to continue up the Potomac to see if the
bonanza continued, but perhaps someone else will do that.
