While birding Craney Island on Monday, December 29, we found an Am. White
Pelican  on the west side of the island.  We watched it in the air and on
the water for a while before it flew toward the bridge and out of sight.
I had forgotten how big they are!

Also along the west side, we saw a long-billed rail fly into the first
patch of  tall reeds after you leave the office.  We had only a very
brief glimpse, but it seemed to me to be the size of a Virginia.

Happy New Year to all,

Karen Heatwole
Rapidan, Va.
