[va-bird] Re: White Pelican observations

Jay:

Well, you may be correct about the pelican's behavior. Like you yesterday,
I could not find it in the morning (between 10 and 11) today, but at 3:30 it
was back, standing in 5 inches of water, resting its huge beak on its back.

  Subject: [va-bird] White Pelican observations

  All,

Just an observation or two regarding the White Pelican at Accotink: I had
checked for it at sunrise this AM from Pohick Regional Park unsuccessfully, and
then I moved over to the Ft Belvoir side to search immediately after. The bird
was nowhere to be found despite thorough searching. I know the bird was
checked for during late morning as well without success. I had asked Kurt to
give me a call if he found the bird today, and when he did I went back and
found the bird at about 4:30 (a year bird and all :-P ). I understand that
Bill McGovern also had the bird later in the afternoon.

I am wondering if the bird has established a sort of a pattern where it only
shows up in Accotink later in the day (presently the time of low tide),
favoring another nearby place with shallower water at other times. If anybody
ends up finding the bird elsewhere, please post or let me know to satisfy my
curiosity. It may be in some water near you!

  Thanks!

  Jay Keller
