Watched the white pelican in roughly the same location at Accotink Bay WR
(across from the archery range) at Ft. Belvoir from about 11:15AM until 3PM.
It spent most of the time we were there on a small clump of mud near the
western shore, sleeping and preening.
Also present:
an armada of 60-70 ruddy ducks
seven or eight lesser scaup
seven tundra swans
six great blue heron on a short stretch of shore
white throated sparrows were everywhere
white breasted nuthatch
two blue jays
cardinals
red bellied woodpecker
carolina wren (heard)(couldn't help it)
American crows
and lots of others that more experienced birders wouldn't have missed.
