This morning, I woke to a singing whip at 6:10 a.m., just as it was starting
to get light. It sang a total of five times over about a minute. After that
I heard a call note repeated occasionally ("whip!"), followed by a strange,
drawn out, whine.
And no, I didn't hear any mockingbirds immediately thereafter . . . .
Made my day.
(My neighborhood, Hollin Hills, is heavily wooded with 1/3-acre lots.)
