Actually, not as much as I had feared. I was out of town for a week during
what is usually one of my favorite weeks of the year in DC, between the
migration, the flowers, and the early spring tree colors. (Before you feel
too sad for me, I was birding in Texas, but I won?t go into the off-topic
details here.) But because of the cold April, things have been sufficiently
delayed that I didn?t miss too much, based on my walk this morning. I did
miss the arrival of the first house wrens, the first ovenbirds, and the
first yellow-rump song, all of which were in evidence at White Oaks Park
this morning. On the other hand, the trees aren?t completely leafed out
yet, and I didn?t miss the last winter wren (saw one this morning, tying my
previous late date). I hope migration is largely over before Fairfax County
sprays White Oaks for gypsy moths---arrgg!
