I spent a few hours birding Colonial Beach and the George Washington
Birthplace National Monument (GWB) during the afternoon of Friday, 3/26.
Things weren't too different from what Fred Atwood saw in the area over the
past few days. Pied-billed Grebe, Horned Grebe, a Barn Swallow, and plenty
of Osprey at Colonial Beach. Birds at GWB included:
Common Loon - 2
Tundra Swan - 100
Wood Duck - 2
Mallard - 2
Gadwall ~ 75
Am. Wigeon - 2
Ring-necked Duck ~ 50
Scaup sp. - 12
Common Goldeneye
Bufflehead ~ 50
Bald Eagle - 3
Forster's Tern - 8
Brown Creeper
Yellow-rumped Warbler ~ 15
Chipping Sparrow - 5 (2-3 individuals were singing)
E. Meadowlark - 10
Cheers,
Dan Kluza
