George Wheaton and I went on a swing around the south-east of the state this
weekend. Started Friday with a failure to find the Glaucous Gull off Brown's
Island, Richmond, but ended with a success with Pacific Loon on Kerr
Reservoir (later reported as also still there today), and an Osprey at
Lynnhaven
Inlet, Virginia Beach.
Saturday we went on the Patteson pelagic out of Virginia Beach (highlights
already reported).
Today, the highlights were: Marsh Wren at ESNWR; a flock of several hundred
Black-bellied Plovers in Northampton County (west of Route 600, just south of
the road to Oyster); Marbled Godwits, Willets, Dunlin, Oystercatchers and a
couple of Whimbrels at Willis Wharf; and a male Goldeneye and a small group of
Canvasbacks at Saxis.
