I visited Riverside Park and Beaverdam Reservoir this morning & afternoon and
saw...
Riverside:
Northern Harrier - a stunning adult male
Sharp-shinned Hawk - juvenile eating a goldfinch
Accipiter sp. - adult
Red-tailed Hawk
Eastern Meadowlark
Beaverdam Reservoir:
Bald Eagles - 2 adults, 1 subadult (1st year?)
Red-tailed Hawk
Canada Geese ~20
Mallards ~50
American Wigeon - 1
Ring-necked Ducks ~50
Bufflehead ~10
Hooded Merganser ~30
Common Merganser ~150
Duck numbers are very rough estimates. There may have been some other species
mixed in as well.
There were also two big white lumps that appeared to be large birds sleeping on
the ice. My guess is they were Tundra Swans, but they were very far away and
the sun was almost directly behind them.
All the birds at Beaverdam, except the swans, were at the north end of the
reservoir. If you go to look for them, your best bet would be to use the
Reservoir Road entrance, and then walk north on the gravel road.
