[va-bird] Waterfowl on the Shenandoah

Potomac Valley Audubon Society will be hosting our annual "Waterfowl on the
Shenandoah" field trip. See below for details:

Sunday, February 24 , 2001, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

PVAS members Lynn Wiseman, Tess England and Bruni Haydl will again be
leading us on this popular birding trip on the Shenandoah River.

Dress warmly, bring your binoculars and/or scopes, a birding field guide
and definitely bring your enthusiasm. This trip is particularly good for
beginners and those who just want to see what all the fuss is about as well
as seasoned birders who know a good bird when they see one.

Last year we saw Buffleheads, Hooded Mergansers, Wood Ducks, Redheads,
Scaups, Belted Kingfisher, American Coots, Green-wing Teals, a Tundra Swan,
Ring-necked Duck, Ruddy Ducks, Red-tailed hawk, a Yellowbelly Sapsucker and
Bluebirds among all the birds we saw. Does this year promise to bring some
surprises? Let?s find out! A Barred Owl has recently been seen along the
river during the day?hummmm.

We will meet at Bakerton Road, just west of Harpers Ferry, WV. Park on the
broad (west) side of the road until we leave at 1:00 p.m for the Bloomery
Road area and possibly Shannondale. You may carpool or caravan with
us. Please contact either Lynn or Tess at 304.876.2539 if you have any
questions.
