I birded Wakefield park (Fairfax County) this morning from 6am -
9:20am. The bird activity was very good. 53 total species seen.
Highlights:
4 Vireo species:
Red-eyed
White-eyed
Warbling
Yellow-throated
8 Warbler Sepcies
Blue-winged
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow
Yellow-rump (at one point I watched 6 indivduals bathing in the creek
less than 10 feet away)
Prarie
Black-throated Green
N. Parula (there were gobs of these noisy little fellows about)
Ovenbird
Say my FOY Indigo Bunting, Eastern Kingbird, RT Hummingbird, and
Baltimore Oriole. The Hummingbird was bathing in the dew on a poplar
sapling. Quite the sight. I also heard a Belted Kingfisher rattling
away, a bird I have never before heard or seen at Wakefield.
The only thrushes I saw or heard were Wood Thrush and Robin, I expected more.
I ran into another birder who reported a Least Flycatcher but I could
not locate or hear it and was running out of time (had to make it to
work at some point!).
