I have been reading with interest the activity (or lack of) at the feeders in
Virginia since the hurricane. In my Virginia Beach yard activity has been
VERY HEAVY with the exception of Goldfinch. Before leaving the Hummingbirds ate
very actively as well. I have seen a biggest increase in the numbers of
Cardinals, Chickadees and Titmice.
I can't help but wonder if because I live closer to the area the storm came
inland that perhaps some of the natural foods that migrating as well as year
round birds normally eat are gone that perhaps that is why I see more at my
feeders.
So much of the foliage was brown or mostly gone shortly after the storm. This
week the Bradford Pears are blooming and new growth appears on trees. At the
Museum on the oceanfront where my husband works they have a fig tree. It lost
EVERYTHING and this week has beautiful new leaves and small figs growing.
Interesting to ponder.
