All,
Greg and I spent about an hour sorting through sparrows at Vint Hill in
Fauquier County this morning. We were in search of American Tree
Sparrows and we found at least one among many Field Sparrows. We parked
in the small parking lot just off Vint Hill road and walked along the
paved path back towards Vint Hill Road. At the second hedgerow we
headed into the field but didn't find good numbers of birds until we
reached the end of the hedgerow. Most of the Field Sparrows and the
American Tree Sparrow were there in the coral berry. The others were in
the hedgerows. Numbers were:
Song 10
Field 50
White-throated 20
White-crowned 1 juvenile
Swamp 2 (both in beautiful plumage)
Chipping 1
American Tree 1
Northern Junco 5
Eastern Towhee 1
