[va-bird] Vesper Sparrow at Lucketts 6/26/03

The Vesper Sparrow which Andy Rabin reported on June 8 was still present on
Wednesday, June 26 on Hibler Rd, just off Rte 661. It was still in full song.
Andy's directions were perfect: On Hibler Rd., just over the crest of the
first hill, in a small "island" of shrubs on the left side of the road. Thanks
Andy.
The Cliff Swallows appear to be having a good nesting year under the Rte 7
bridge over the Shenandoah River. The Common Morehen is still being most
cooperative at Blandy. Also on the lake at Blandy were a female Wood Duck with
seven young. We did not find the Loggerhead Shrike at Blandy--there were
gardeners working in the area where it had been reported.

It was a "birdy" morning with so many fledglings along the route. I was
especially impressed with the numbers of Grasshopper Sparrow and Brown Thrasher
seen. But where are the Red-tailed Hawks--not a single sighting--hope it's not
West Nile?
