[va-bird] VIRGINIA BIRDS deadline for spring reporting period

Va-Birders,

As editor of the North Region section of VIRGINIA BIRDS, quarterly publication of the Virginia Society of Ornithology, I would like to remind everyone that reports of significant bird sightings during the spring period (March-May) should be in my hands tomorrow.

The North Region includes Arlington, Clarke, Culpeper, Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Madison, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Stafford and Warren Counties; and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, and Winchester.

Reports of early arrivals and late departures from our area, birds that are seldom seen at this time of the year or in this part of the country, unusually large numbers or conspicuous absences of species, and any sightings that will help to document trends in the distribution of birds in the Commonwealth are all welcome, as are quality photographs of any of the birds reported upon.

If you have reported your sightings to VA-Bird, you need not send those to me again. However, you may be one of the many fine birders out there who read this list but do not report to it regularly or at all. Your valuable contributions will be missed unless you send them to me directly. Relevant details should include the names of the observers, date, location. Depending on the rarity of the the bird, the habitat description, the bird's behavior, and information about the viewing conditions and optics used should be included.

Thanks to all for supporting this publication with your note-worthy sightings.
