Connie Campanella, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Bird
Conservancy (ABC) has forwarded this to me regarding efforts to save the Red
Knot from extinction. ABC, NJ Audubon, Defenders of Wildlife and others have
been working to secure a moratorium on the harvest and landing of horseshoe
crabs. A great victory was won this past week, but the final decision will
occur
in February, 2006.
Because Virginia’s Commissioners on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries
Commission (ASMFC) opposed any action in favor of the Red Knot and lead the
opposition to any moratorium option, ABC is looking for people to help
influence
the next Virginia Administration. If you would like to help, please contact
Connie directly at cc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
