[va-bird] Re: VA-Bird is for Virginia

On another list serve, a solution to off-topic subjects is to state in the subject line OFF-TOPIC, so that those not interested in reading further can simply delete. I am sure I'm not the only birding finding the discussion of Lyme disease interesting and relevant to a birder.

Dear VA-Birders,

Lately I have read several off topic posts to VA-Bird. Here is the semi-annual reminder:

The VA-Bird listserv is for reporting birds in Virginia and birding in Virginia. If you have a topic that does not conform to those parameters, please contact me offline first for permission before posting. (I do not grant permission for most reports from other states or countries, nor reports concerning bird feeding, optics, and politically charged topics).

Notices for bird walks and bird club meetings in VA are welcome. The recent posts on the interstate commission meetings on horseshoe crabs are appropriate because the issue has a direct effect on VA birding.

Please take non-VA topics to BirdChat or other electronic birding communities (although most have their own set of rules for topics).

Happy summer, and please do post what you see in the Old Dominion,

Paul Mocko
Owner, VA-Bird Listserv
