I birded Virginia Beach today, with stops at Stumpy Lake, the Whitehurst Tract,
Back Bay NWR, Rudee Inlet, Lynnhaven Inlet and the CBBT. I didn't see anything
really outstanding but did have a nice variety of species through the day.
Highlights included over 200 COMMON LOONS and several thousand NORTHERN GANNETS
from the end of the Dune Trail at Back Bay, 18 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS on the
beach with other gulls at Back Bay, another LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Little
Island Park in Sandbridge, and 2 male HARLEQUIN DUCKS at Island #1 of the CBBT.
On the way back to my friend's house in Grafton, I stopped by Ridgeway Park
in Hampton and easily found the male Eurasian Wigeon with a small number of
American wigeons.
