Just a quick note regarding the Upland Sandpipers that were seen copulating
near Remington earlier in the year. Today I had two adults with three
full-sized young on the turf of the Woodward Turf Farm on Route 651. This is
a couple miles from the town of Remington itself. It was overcast but not
raining when I saw the birds. It seems that they come into the short grass
of the sod farm on cloudy days or in the early morning. I've never seen them
there on bright, sunny days.
About a half dozen Horned Larks and twenty-seven Killdeer were in the small
area of sod that has been peeled up. Meadowlarks dotted the grass elsewhere,
about twenty of them. Lots of doves poking around in the grass too, and they
can look a bit like the Uplands at a glance.
Cheers...
Todd
