Today (May 5) at 8:00 AM, I saw the UPLAND SANDPIPER previously
reported off Harrison Rd in Fauquier Co. Also present there were
a couple of dz. BOBOLINK and 2 singing SAV. SPARROWS.
After leaving Harrison Rd.,I swung by Rapidan in Culpeper Co.
Best bird here was a singing HENSLOW'S SPARROW. The sparrow was
seen and heard along the wet ditch in the field just north of the
Rapidan Berry Farm. If you take the first paved road north of the
berry farm, you pull over to listen and look for the bird.
I finished up the day in the mountains of Amherst Co. where the
best birds for me were BLACKPOLL WARBLER and VEERY (#229 and 230
on my Big Year List). With the Uppie, Henslow's and a MUTE SWAN, I
appropriately added 5 new year birds to my list in honor of
Cinco de Mayo (Battle Of Puebla)!
