I realize that Green Herons are not the rarest of birds, however I have
found my recent sightings interesting enough to report to this list.
I started a new job in the Tysons Corner area of McLean recently. Over
the past week or so I have seen upwards of 6 individual Green Herons, at
a time, hanging about in the parking lot of my office building (7925
Jones Branch Rd). Their favorite site appears to be any car that is left
overnight in the lot as this is where I have seen most of them. From my
office window on the 6th floor I continue to see them all day as well as
a great variety of other birds. Last Friday I had 18 species fly by my
window in the fleeting moments I had to look out the window, including a
beautiful Cedar Waxwing that landed on the window sill! Who would have
thought that Tysons Corner could support such wonderful birds!
Good Birding,
