I spent the afternoon in Catawba Valley looking for shrikes, unfortunately
couldn't find any. I did spot an impressive flock of 46 turkeys feeding in a
pasture. They were in the sun and the large swatches of green and gold
iridescence was striking. This is by far the most turkeys that I've seen at one
time.
Does anyone know what they may have been eating? They didn't appear to be
eating
grass and they weren't scratching with their feet, just picking something off
of the ground.

PS I went by Walrond Park this evening to see if the Merlin seen yesterday
was still around. I didn't see it but I did encounter something that struck me
as very odd.......7 Mockingbirds in close proximity, 4 of them side by side on
a wire and the other 3 nearby. Needless to say they were having words, you
definitely could feel the tension.
