Hello all
Monday for me was just going back to work after a two week R & B (rest &
birding ). As most know I do Medical Transports for the Hospital . So I am on
the road most of the time . Well as I was traveling down I 64 east bound
towards Waynesboro to do a routine transport , I always check out the open farm
fields for anything that might want to cross my path of travel Deer , birds ,
any small animal ) .Anyway just before the exit to Rt. 340 in Waynesboro I
noticed a large bird in a small field on the right side of the road . At a
distance I thought to myself what is a Great Blue doing in this dry field but
as I got closer the large bird materialized into a Sandhill Crane ( I got a
second look at the bird after picking up my "rides " & heading back towards
Staunton to drop them off ) .As soon as I ID the bird I called Yulee Larner to
see if she or if Yulee could find someone to check it out so that I was not the
only one to ID the bird . Well no one else saw it & the Crane only stayed for a
short time . I have not seen it the last two days . So everyone keep your eyes
open if you are traveling I 64 East towards Waynesboro .
On Tuesday around noon at the AMC Hospital I saw a lone DC Cormorant fly over .
For today after work I went out to my property to check on things & to check on
my Bluebird boxes . This info is for Roger Clapp ( my property is off of Rt .
275 & 254 east -- take Rt. 254 west about 6 tenths of a mile to the lane where
the property is ).
Well in the first box I have 7 Carolina Chickadee's out of 9 eggs . First
noticed the eggs on April 23 & had young on the 25 . Box number 2 had 4
Bluebird eggs on the 23 & 3 young on the 25 of April . Box number 3 as of today
has 6 Carolina Chickadee's that just hatched . Box 4 is still waiting for some
tenants . I checked on where a Turkey Vulture nested last year & she is back in
the same place sitting on 2 eggs . As I am finishing this up a Veery is singing
outside my window. That's all for now happy birding to all .
