No kidding! After reading about the two-headed gull down at the CBBT, I
thought I'd report about an unusual 2nd winter Herring Gull that Bev
Leeuwenburg,
George Wheaton, and I saw at the Prince William Co. Landfill yesterday. When I
first saw the bird, it looked like it had three legs. I called Bev over to see
and we watched in fascination (or horror) as the bird turned a bit to reveal
a third foot (not a third leg) at or near the proximal end of the left leg.
The third foot had no webbing between the toes and talons which made it all the
more WEIRD!!
No, we hadn't been hitting the bottle that day!
