Hello all
This past week end I lead two field trips the first being on Saturday . This
trip was to the Stuarts Draft & Lyndhurst areas of Augusta County . We had a
combined trip with the C' ville & Augusta Bird Club's . A total of 20 members
showed up for this cold half day of birding . We ended up with 43 species with
the best birds being Canvasback , Red - shouldered Hawk , Horned Lark on Rt.
652 , Tree Sparrow & Fox Sparrow . Birds missed were Lapland Longspur & Barn
Owl .
On Sunday afternoon I lead another trip this time on Bells Lane in Staunton
just off of Rt. 275 . The weather was much nicer & a whole lot warmer than
Saturday . Here 13 members of the Augusta Bird Club enjoyed the afternoon show
( 16 :15 ) of at least 2 No. Harrier & 3 Short --eared Owls . These birds were
still there tonight . ( From Rt. 275 go on Bells Lane to the top of the hill --
best viewing place & scan the fields where the large & 3 smaller ponds are . )
Back to the Sunday field trip -- we had 26 species of birds with the best being
Snow Goose -- 3 adult , 1 blue & 1 juv. among the thousand Canada's -- no
Cackling , Canvasback , Red Head , No. Harrier , Short -- eared Owl , Tree
Sparrow & Fox Sparrow . Missed were Cackling Goose & Savannah Sparrow .
All in all this past week end turned out to be very good . Happy Birding to all
!
