[va-bird] Re: Thanks for all the YB Cuckoo comments!

Hey VA-Birders--and especially Bob, Marc, Alyce, Paula, and HWGJ!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the to and fro comments on the
Yellow-Billed Cuckoo! It was fun reading all the contributions, and I learned
a lot in a short time!

  Could this being fall
migration already? Or are these birds just moving off of breeding
  territories?
      It is Fall migration.
Louisianan Waterthrush is the earliest Fall migrant among the wood warblers.
Records of adult birds in southern Florida believed to be Fall migrants have
occured as early as the second week in June. Any bird seen in Massachusetts
after August 1st is considered a misidentified Northern Waterthrush until
details
  are completed.
While fly fishing the Potomac near River Bend Park yesterday afternoon
Yellow-billed Cuckoos were calling from all directions without interuption
for
several hours. With this huge invasion of Yellow-billed Cuckoos it would be
worth it to watch for other bird species that might be feeding young cuckoos.
Cuckoos are well known nest parasites and the sheer numbers of birds present
may,
at least statistically, create an environment for this to happen. Some of the
species that are known to host orphan cuckoos are American Robin, Cedar
Waxwing, Wood Thrush, Northern Cardinal, Gray Catbird, Mourning Dove and
numerous
  sparrows.
