Yesterday, Oct. 1, Rexanne Bruno and I did some birding in Campbell and
Appomattox county which was extremely rewarding in spite of the lack of rain
since August. At 8 a.m. we stopped at a marshy area with 3 creeks on route
737
in Campbell county. The area was alive with birds, especially warblers. We
counted 10 species and probably missed more because there were so many flying
about. Listed below are what we saw at this location.
parula warbler 2
magnolia warbler
cape may warbler
black-throated blue
black throated green (counted at least 12)
hooded warbler
pine warbler
black and white warbler
prairie warbler
common yellowthroat
swainsons thrush
robins
catbirds
ceder waxwings
song sparrow
swamp sparrow
white throat sparrow
red eyed vireo
AT another venue in Appomattox county we counted a covey of 7 bob white
feeding in a field, saw 2 yellowbilled cuckoos along a river and 5 western race
palm warblers along a fence row.
We called it a day around 1 p.m. and came home to apply ice packs to
warbler neck!
